5/2013: Dr. Dong received the 2013 Dr. Hamed K. Eldin Outstanding Early Career Industrial Engineer in Academia Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). This award recognizes individuals in academia who have demonstrated outstanding characteristics in education, leadership, professionalism and potential in industrial engineering.

10/2012: Dr. Dong gave a Plenary Lecture titled “A Systematic Modeling and Optimization Framework towards Optimal Manufacturing Performance” at the International Workshop on Mathematics and Algorithms for Computer-Aided Manufacturing, Engineering and Numerical Control (MAMENC 2012).

8/2012: Dr. Dong and Dr. Cohen received a NSF grant to support the research on AFM-based ultrasonic vibration assisted nanomachining.

8/2012: Li Zhang successfully passed his PhD preliminary exam.

6/2012: “Ultrasonic vibration shakes up nanomachining“, the research from the group on AFM-based ultrasonic vibration assisted nanomachining has been highlighted by the Physics World Magazine (June 2012 issue focus on Nanotechnology).

5/2012: Dr. Dong received the 2012 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from Society of Manufacturing Engineer, as one of six recipients world-wide, in recognition of his “significant achievement and leadership in manufacturing engineering”.
